    MST-Workshop

    MicroScale Thermophoresis (MST) Workshop

    When: 10th & 11th of July 2014
Where: Seminar room 01.002-004 of the RVZ/ZINF/IMIB building

The study of molecule interaction provides crucial information on the molecular mechanics. MicroScale Themophoresis utilizes a IR-Laser to create a controlled temperature gradient in the test capillary and monitors the molecular dynamics through fluorescence (intrinsic or added).

The movement of molecules along a temperature gradient (Soret effect) is driven by entropy and the hydration shell of the molecules. As the hydration shell is characterized by the molecular surface, this technique can be used to investigate the protein folding, protein oligomerization, protein stability as well as the interaction between molecules (association, dissociation, binding). All this can be measured in solution without immobilization. Even labeling is often not needed due to intrinsic (tryptophan) fluorescence.

In the workshop, the trainer Dr. Heide Marie Roth will present the technology, explain the opportunities and limitations as well as provide opportunity to test your samples. For a full program please check the workshop agenda.

This workshop is free of charge for GSLS students as well as externals. Please register through the transferable skills registration on the GSLS homepage. If you want to inquire more detail or if you plan to have your sample tested, please contact the trainer directly by email at heidemarie.roth@nanotemper.de
