FAQ's - Before the Doctoral Examination

Frequently asked questions (FAQs) - before the doctoral examination

We would like to point out at an early stage with the information on the composition of your Supervisory Committee that the GSH unfortunately cannot finance travel and hotel costs for external supervisors or examiners; i.e. travel for participation in the final doctoral examination must also be paid for from another source. We recommend that you contact your primary supervisor for this.

No, at the time of the doctoral colloquium you only need a current admission to the Graduate School. However, you must obtain any necessary extension beyond the six semesters of initial admission from your Supervisory Committee in good time; a possible second extension must be obtained directly from the Director. We will remind you in good time before your respective admission period expires.

You. Upon acceptance of the dissertation (i.e. after the expiry of the display and objection period), we will inform you and all other parties involved in your doctoral examination procedure that the dissertation has been accepted. It is then (belatedly) your task to find a person to take the minutes, to propose this to the chairperson (via us) and to coordinate a date with all those involved. We are happy to help with a room here in our building; please contact us in good time.

Once you have received all confirmations, please let us know the date; there must generally be at least 9-10 days until this date, as a minimum eight-day invitation period must be observed. We will then invite you in accordance with § 24 (2) of the Doctoral Regulations.

Please note that you should also agree with your examiners in good time whether your oral examination is to be held as a colloquium or as a defence.
