Compulsory Elective Area SS 2026
To enable you as a doctoral candidate at our Graduate School to plan your curricula as early as possible and thus optimally, we always inform you about our workshop programme in advance, i.e. before the end of the preceding lecture period of a given semester. The programme teaches interdisciplinary and non-specialist doctoral and professional qualifications that are required for
- your doctorate,
- your academic career and
- your career entry
and career entry. Important skills that will also be relevant during your doctoral phase are, for example, writing skills, presentation techniques, rhetoric and communication, teamwork, project management, etc..
These courses are offered exclusively and free of charge for you as a doctoral candidate at the Graduate School. Further detailed information on the content, registration deadlines, seminar trainers, etc. can be found in the respective seminar descriptions. At the beginning of each registration period, we will also inform you again by email; this will also include any last-minute updates or similar.

4 May 2026: "Convincing with the humanities doctorate" - Mr Leybold (10:15 - 18:00, 1 day)
9 - 30 June 2026: "Scan Reading" - Mr Gaedeke (online, seven modules, 1.5 days in total)
2 July 2026: "Making the leap and completing the dissertation" - Dr Lange (10:00h - 17:00h, 1 day)
The curriculum of the doctoral programme "Humanities " provides for a whole range of qualification options in the compulsory elective section, which you can also acquire from academic qualification institutions outside the GSH in consultation with your supervising committee; therefore you will find here the
