Current programme (as of 22.5.2023):

Friedrich Nietzsche's lectures as a gateway to Greek thought

Evening lecture and workshop with Dr Carlotta Santini (Paris)

It is generally known that Nietzsche's relationship to antiquity is special. But while his thoughts on the Greeks in his published works are also known beyond specialist circles, his Basel Lectures represent an under-exploited source of his reception of antiquity. The study of these texts not only promises a deeper understanding of Nietzsche's own thinking, but also proves profitable for the study of antiquity.

As a professor of classical philology, his explanations of antiquity are both well-founded and provocative and thus make an important contribution to the development of our image of Greek literature and philosophy.

Carlotta Santini (Paris) is the leading expert on Nietzsche's engagement with Greek thought in the Basel Lectures. As such, she will first provide a substantive impulse in her evening lecture during the two-day event. Her workshop on the following day will enable participants to analyse selected primary texts more closely and in greater depth.
