Up-To-Date Doctorate

Is a doctorate at the Graduate School useful for me?

It goes without saying for potential doctoral candidates before taking up a doctorate within the Humanities at the University of Würzburg to wonder how a doctorate at our Graduate School differs from the classic doctorate at a Faculty.

The most important question to answer to yourself should rather be though: "Do I want to/can I/should I do my doctorate or not?" For that, we recommend you consult our "Shaping a Doctorate Together - Guidelines for Doctoral Candidates" handbook (available in German and English).

If you can answer the above questions with "yes", and if you have found a Primary Supervisor among our members, it can be useful to do your doctorate at our Graduate School

...because:

  1. You will generally enjoy optimised conditions for your doctorate that allow you to acquire, document and apply additional qualification.
  2. You can obtain a backing within a tightened competitive environment. As other universities have massively established Graduate Schools within their Humanities during the last few years you will have to compete with their doctorate holders.
