Abstract:
Society is changing as a result of digitalisation processes. At the same time, educational tasks are changing. Our modern media, information and internet society opens up new perspectives in the field of education: Digital learning, digital teaching, the digitalisation of teaching, digital professionalisation - these are all current challenges in terms of education policy and educational ideals.

The fluctuation of digital media is triggering a need for research. New media come onto the market that promise innovative possibilities and digital prosperity - at the same time, digital "hypes" disappear if they do not prove their worth. What criteria are suitable for assessing the potential of new media? Under what conditions should education follow the trend of mechanisation, mediatisation and "digitalisation", what opportunities and risks can be expected? Theoretical and empirical research is needed to answer these questions.

The context of the project will be university teaching. The question is whether the use of modern media enriches university teaching in favour of the professionalisation of students. Specifically, it is about the subject of religious education.

The ActivPanel takes centre stage as the modern interactive digital medium to be researched. This is a technical device that has been specially developed to support teaching processes and promises intelligent networking of the front display and individual tablets in the learning group. The project is investigating whether the ActivPanel conveys religious education topics "differently" than established media and whether any findings can be transferred to other teaching areas. To this end, a quasi-experimental research design will be used.
