Abstract:
What role do nationalisms play in the development policy discourse and how can they be assessed in terms of justice and democracy theory? To address this question, the development policy discourse of the last twelve years in Germany will first be analysed. In doing so, the development of the significance of national interests and claims to priority in the discourse will be traced and their relationship to orientations towards global justice and international solidarity determined. Subsequently, a normative-ethical reflection will provide an evaluation based on the theory of justice and ask for insights into the ambivalent relationship between democracy, the nation state and nationalism.
