Abstract:
Atmosphere is a basic phenomenon of the reality of our lives. Andreas Rauh examines atmosphere in the conceptual field of aesthetics - initially following the predecessor concept of "aura" (Walter Benjamin). He systematically develops a concise position on atmosphere following Gernot Böhme and emphasises the vagueness of atmospheres.

On the basis of an extended theory of perception with a view to the 'special atmosphere', Rauh shows that atmospheres can be explored within the framework of the qualitative-empirical method of "Aisthetic Field Research", with works by Gerhard Richter taking centre stage as the object of investigation
