Abstract:
Television is of great importance for Christian preaching. It also reaches people who are far removed from the church and can usefully supplement the power of the word with images and sound. I would therefore like to achieve the following goals with my dissertation:

The thesis should show, by means of a well-founded analysis and comparison of a programme type, what differences there are between the offerings of both private Christian and public broadcasters.

In addition, the work should show the reasons, possibilities and various forms of ecumenical co-operation on television. In addition to Bible films, which are increasingly broadcast on television at Easter time, or the constant "Word for Sunday", there is a wide range of religious broadcasting formats in Germany. These range from short programmes such as "So gesehen" on SAT 1 to social reportage programmes such as "37°" on ZDF. Private Christian broadcasters such as Bibel-TV or K-TV from Austria also enrich the offering.

As the production of high-quality programmes is usually costly, it can only be an advantage to enter into cooperations of both a financial and creative nature. In the religious field, two forms are possible: International and ecumenical co-operation. As the work is mainly focussed on fundamental theology, I would like to concentrate on ecumenical cooperation.

In addition to the pragmatic reasons mentioned above, it is possible to find common ground through the work and gain new emphases for ecumenism.
