    Dr. Jonathan Thon

    Jonathan Thon did his Phd (2008) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of British Columbia and is recently lecturer at Harvard Medical School as well as CEO and Co-Founder at Platelet BioGenesis.

     

    Work: Platelet BioGenesis is a Harvard University spinout that is making human platelets from stem cells. We have developed and patented a microfluidic bioreactor, and shown that functional platelets can be generated from human pluripotent stem cell cultures. By removing the volunteer donor, we can make platelets that are cheaper, safer, and available on demand.

    Dr. Hendrik Knoetgen

    Hendrik Knoetgen studied Biochemistry at the University Hannover and did his PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Goettingen. He joined the Roche Innovation Center Munich in 2003 as a group leader working on antibody engineering and manufacturing cell line development. In 2009 he took over responsibility as head of the Lead Identification Department. In 2015 he moved to the Roche Innovation Center Basel, F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd, as Program Leader – Targeted Therapeutics.

    Work: Hendrik is an expert on antibody engineering and bifunctional antibody fusion proteins, e.g. CD8 T cell recruiter. At the moment he is involved in new  therapeutic strategies.

     

     

    Dr. Sebastian Gliem

    Sebastian studied human medical life sciences and obtained a PhD (2010) in neurosciences from University of Göttingen. As a Postdoc, Sebastian expanded more into brain imaging by visualizing neuronal projections to different target sites. He then joined Carl Zeiss Microscopy in 2014 as an Application Specialist in Göttingen. From April to November 2016, Sebastian moved to Boston to support the Harvard Center for Biological Imaging as the ZEISS Embedded Imaging Consultant. Since December 2017, Sebastian has moved back to Germany as an Application Specialist to pursue his former role in global application, training and marketing support.

    Work: As a member of the Global Application Support Team for Academia at Carl Zeiss Microscopy, Sebastian is responsible for High-End, ZEN Blue based widefield systems such as Apotome, Spinning Disk, TIRF and Deconvolution. His role also includes teaching Imaging Specialists and Sales from around the world in understanding the principles of these techniques, as well as travelling to support demos and customer trainings in the field. Sebastian also works closely with Service Support, Product Management and Development to aid in the resolution of complex situations that involve both technical and application issues.

     

     

     

    Dr. Sophia Blake

    Sophia Blake studied at the University of Salzburg and did her PhD (2009) in Molecular Biology at the Max F. Perutz Laboratories, Vienna. After her PhD she joined the Group of Axel Behrens, Francis Crick Institute London, as a Postdoc. By the end of 2013, Sophia moved from Academia to Industry and joined Boehringer Ingelheim as a Principal Scientist. A few years later, in 2017, she changed to Proteros, Munich as Project Manager. In March 2018, she took over responsibility as Director Discovery Project Management and Translational Oncology. 

    Work: Proteros is a biotech company focused on enabling lead discovery for challenging targets based on its unique expertise and understanding of protein and small molecule interactions. Co-founded in 1999 by Nobel Laureate Prof. Robert Huber, the company has established a global service business that includes 18 of the 20 largest pharmaceutical companies 

     

     

    Dr. Jan Philip Kraack

    Until recently, Philip served as a postdoctoral scientist at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, where he worked on the development of new methods for ultrafast, multi-dimensional vibrational spectroscopy at surfaces. In 2013, he obtained his PhD from the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg, Germany, having investigated ultrafast vibrational coherence dynamics in excited electronic states of polyenes. 

    Work: Philip joined Nature Physics in 2018.
