Abstract:
Adolescence is an important phase for the acquisition of social knowledge. This also applies to the acquisition of political knowledge, which has rarely been considered in German research in comparison to more school-relevant areas of knowledge such as linguistic or mathematical competences. As in other areas of knowledge, there are also clear differences between young people with and without a migration background.

In order to better understand the difference between German and immigrant youths with regard to knowledge about German politics, a subjective theory of action will be used to examine more closely which conditions are favourable for immigrant youths to acquire a high level of political knowledge about German politics in the new cultural frame of reference of the host country. The focus here is on the individual and family conditions of young immigrants.

In order to answer the research question, quantitative data collected through surveys of young people in class will be used. In addition, data on social background from parental questionnaires will be used.
