Abstract:
After more than half a century of political conflict, China once again experienced a cultural and economic peak under the Song dynasty. In addition to military conflicts between Song, Khitan and Jurchen, this period was also strongly characterised by the fusion of different cultures and their interaction in the multicultural societies of northern China.

On the basis of official and unofficial travel reports written by members of the Song legations to the northern foreign dynasties, which have received little attention to date, the extent to which cross-border cultural transfer took place and the significance of this multicultural composition for the integration of societies will be investigated.
