Abstract:
The dissertation examines Kleist's political ideas. As is repeatedly claimed, a crisis situation (war, duel, natural disaster, etc.) in which established orders are suspended and characters are exposed to danger often plays a decisive role in Kleist's work. As his essay 'Über die allmähliche Verfertigung der Gedanken beim Reden‛ shows, the confrontation with the enemy can even bring about salvation. But if everything depends only on the crisis that has really arisen, then it doesn't matter who the enemy is or what value the fight is about. It is only about the existence of the enemy or the danger. This concept of value neutrality, which seems to foreshadow Carl Schmitt's notion of the political, should be used to explore the political themes that are still relevant today, such as community, law, justice and the crowd, which Kleist often deals with in his works.
