Doctoral programme "Humanities"
Doctoral Study Programme:
The training and qualification of doctoral students of the Graduate School within the framework of the doctoral study programme "Humanities" is laid down in the GSH/UWGS study regulations . The study programme and the creditable coursework are determined individually by each doctoral candidate in consultation with his/her doctoral committee. In your own interest, please take note of our information.
The curriculum generally comprises a total of 16 semester hours per week (SWS) for a planned three-year doctoral period; the study programme is structured as follows:
- Compulsory area: subject-disciplinary specialisation (10 SWS)
through courses offered by the academic members of the Graduate School; these are doctoral colloquia and advanced/main seminars, and the - Compulsory elective area: interdisciplinary/extradisciplinary qualifications (6 SWS)
such as doctoral and professional qualifications or methodological and language skills for later professional development in and outside research; these are in particular writing skills, teaching qualifications, rhetoric, presentation techniques, team and project management, motivation training, etc.
The study programme is structured in such a way that with an average performance of 2 to 3 SWS in one semester, the 16 SWS can be completed in six semesters or three years, i.e. in the time in which no tuition fees are charged for enrolment in the doctoral programme.
