Is a doctorate at the Graduate School useful for me?
It goes without saying for potential doctoral candidates before taking up a doctorate within the Humanities at the University of Würzburg to wonder how a doctorate at our Graduate School differs from the classic doctorate at a faculty.
The most important question to answer to yourself should rather be though: „Do I want to/can I/should I do my doctorate or not?" For that, we recommend you consult our "Recommendations for Doctoral Students" handbook (in German and English).
If you can answer the above questions with "yes", and if you have found a primary mentor among our members, it can be useful to do your doctorate at our Graduate School
- You will generally enjoy optimised conditions for your doctorate that allow you to acquire, document and apply additional qualification.
- You can obtain a backing within a tightened competitive environment. As other universities have massively established Graduate Schools within their Humanities during the last few years you will have to compete with their doctorate holders.
