Graduiertenschule für die Geisteswissenschaften

Important note

In your own interest, we would like to urgently point out that you should take care of this at an early stage and coordinate with your supervisors in the supervisory meetings to ensure that you complete your curricula within the framework of the doctoral study programme "Humanities" in a formally correct manner. In the meantime, there have been several cases in which insufficient and/or formally incorrect qualification achievements in the elective or compulsory elective area were presented when applying for the doctoral examination. However, admission to the doctoral examination can only be granted if quantitatively sufficient and formally correct achievements have been proven in the Transcription of Records ("Studienbuch") and are confirmed by the supervisory committee.

Please read our comprehensive and detailed information on the Study Regulations carefully and in good time:

The following applies:

  1. At least 10 SWS must be completed in the compulsory subject area, which must be achieved by successfully attending advanced or main seminars or doctoral colloquia. NB: These are the only types of courses that can be credited for this!
Please note: You can also attend advanced/major seminars or doctoral colloquia that have NOT been registered by our members for the University Calendar. The respective course must only be relevant to the subject of your dissertation and the attendance must be agreed with your supervisors.
  2. 6 SWS must be completed in the non-specialised or interdisciplinary compulsory elective area. There is a very wide range of qualification options available to you here.
It is essential that you remember to acquire these qualifications as early as possible. On the one hand, this will enable you to develop effective structuring tools for your doctorate; on the other hand, you will have sufficient time to work on your dissertation project and will not have to attend qualification seminars in the - particularly intensive - late phase. Even though the compulsory elective area also offers a wide range of credit transfer options from outside the GSH programme, only qualifications that are offered at university level towards your doctorate, an academic career or an extra-academic career entry can be credited. For this purpose, you should definitely access the broad range of GSH programmes whose qualifications are explicitly aligned with the Study Regulations early on.
  3. The qualifications you acquire must be agreed with your supervisors in the three supervision meetings and recorded in the respective minutes. Use the forms provided for this purpose.
