Würzburg University Press (WUP) - the open access publisher of the University of Würzburg.
The University of Würzburg's publishing house aims to make research results visible and offer independent publication opportunities. To this end, it supports Early Career Rsearchers at the University in their publication activities: Research results are published in print and electronically, accessible worldwide free of charge, permanently archived and findable.
Publications of the Würzburg University Press (WUP) are always
- Open Access publications, i.e. publicly and freely accessible on the Internet,
- are published on the university publication server OPUS and
- published as print-on-demand.
Helpful initial information on this, especially for doctoral candidates at GSH:
- Dissertations are published that are graded "magna cum laude" or "summa cum laude" or, in the case of GSH, "opus valde laudabile" and "opus eximium" .
- Severeal dissertations by GSH doctoral candidates have already been published by WUP.
- Academic contributions by professors are not reviewed in detail; in the case of research assistants, a recommendation from the relevant professor is required.
- The publisher offers various format templates and always checks the form of the work to be submitted.
- In contrast to many other academic publishers, authors have a say in the design of the publication. The design can either be taken over by WUP or - within the framework of guidelines on the WUP logo, font (meta medium) and blurb - designed by the authors themselves.
- The average price for a book publication/dissertation by WUP is 500-700€ and varies depending on the print run, design effort, number and type of illustrations, etc.; the basic flat rate for a publication is 100-150€. These prices are offered exclusively to Würzburg University members.
- Accompanying data material such as statistical data on field research, surveys etc., which cannot or should not be published as part of the publication, can also be stored and made accessible on separate files if necessary.
- Authors generally handle enquiries to publishers about copyrights themselves.
- The University Library finances articles in Open Access journals(via publication funds).
