    Katja Becker

Professor at the Justus-Liebig University of Giessen, Germany

    Main research interests:

Identification of potential targets against tumor- and infectious diseases; Cellular thiol metabolism; structure and function of redoxactive proteins

    Thomas Bosch

Professor at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel, Germany

    Main research interests:

Studies of the molecular mechanisms controlling pattern (axis) formation and stem cell differentiation in the cnidarian Hydra; Hydra as a model to gain understanding on the evolution of immunity and the evolution and the function of orthologs to human disease genes for barrier dysfunction

    Nils Brose

Professor at the Max-Planck-Institute of Experimental Medicine in Göttingen, Germany

    Main research interests:

Molecular mechanisms of the development of synapses between nerve cells; molecular mechanisms of neurotransmitter release at synapses

    Conor R. Caffrey

    Main research interests:

Development of quantitative high-throughput tools, in particular, for schistosomiasis; identification and testing of novel chemistries for the treatment of schistosomiasis and Human African trypanosomiasis or´sleeping sickness

    Emmanuelle Canet-Soulas

Professor at the University Lyon 1 and Institut Universitaire de France in Lyon, France

    Main research interests:

Characterization of inflammation in atheroma using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI); evaluation of the diagnostic impact of currently available MR contrast agents to detect evolutive lesions, using biocompatible nanoparticles engineering the experimental results show the added value of multi-modal imaging strategies, combining MRI and Positron emission tomography - computed tomography (PET/CT) to gain insight into characterization of vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques and at risk patients

    Carlos A. Guzmán

Head of the Department of Vaccinology and applied Microbiology at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Braunschweig, Germany

    Main research interests:

Development of new vaccines, to serve either as a prophylaxis or as a therapy against disease, focussing on three specific areas: basic research into new immune modulators, reactions triggered when a host organism is exposed to an infection or a vaccination, and development and validation of vaccines

    María S. Soengas

Professor in the Molecular Pathology Program at the CNIO (Centro National de Investigationes Oncológicas), Spain

    Main research interests:

Identification of new melanoma oncogenes and tumor suppressors; Molecular basis of melanoma progression and chemoresistance; Design and validation of new anticancer agents with the ultimate objective of a more rational approach to treatment
