"A Message to Excellence"

Editorial

Hello and welcome to your September GSLS newsletter!

In the first newsletter the GSLS announced the GSLS mascot contest: we have asked doctoral students to hand in sketches of what they think symbolizes the Life Sciences and Research in Würzburg. A couple of drafts were turned in and the jury - comprising of the DSC, GSLS board and staff – had a hard time picking the most appropriate sketch. But finally, we are happy to announce the winner: Claudia Leikam, Theodor Boveri Institute, Department of Physiological Chemistry I. Congratulations! Thank you very much indeed for the beautiful Octopus which holds various objects in his eight tentacles that symbolize the Life Sciences and Research at the University of  Würzburg. “Herbi´s” head looks like a globe demonstrating the international aspect of the GSLS. It is a pleasure to pass the i-Pod to Claudia. +++ GSLS doctoral students and PIs may use the newsletter as a platform of communication and exchange, and we are still curious of how you will make use of this medium. +++ Furthermore you are invited to send in scientific photos or photos from meetings to be published at the end of each newsletter +++ You will find a picture of Herbi in the next newsletter: in November.

Best regards,
Rose Liebert
